About Us

The Niemantsverdriet surname dates to the mid-1600s when records of Jan Niemantsverdriet of Klaaswaal, South Holland, first appear. Jan is the family progenitor and all Niemantsverdriets (Niemandsverdriet, Niemansverdriet) descend from him. The name translates as "No Man's Trouble" or "No Man's Sorrow" -- which aptly describes us. His lineage now extends around the world with large contingents in the Netherlands, particularly South Holland, the United States, and Canada.
 

Berneice Lorraine Hugen August 16, 1919 to March 22, 2009 "Bea", the daughter of Asa Niemantsverdriet and Jennie Wilma Van Peursem, was born on the family farm in rural Otley, Iowa. Bea was united in marriage with Wilbur Bert Hugen on the farm in Otley on June 11, 1941. Visitation : Thursday, March 26, 2009 --the family will be from 5 - 7pm at Pence-Reese Funeral Home, Newton, IA Service : Friday, March 27, 2009 10:30 AM Community Reformed Church, Newton, IA Interment : Newton Union Cemetery, Newton, IA Obituary
